Vice President: Mateo Restrepo
1. Where in the GTA did you grow up, and what high school did you attend?
I grew up in the City of York in the greater Toronto area west side and attended my local high school Dante Alighieri Academy.
2. What is your current profession?
I am currently a professional soccer player that plays for Halifax Wanderers. I have aspirations of becoming a medical doctor following my professional soccer career as I have successfully completed the MCAT.
3. What is one important life lesson in your journey so far?
The most important life lesson that I have learned has been the power of humility. By humbling myself and giving my all to my craft, I can maintain a healthy balance throughout the highs and lows of my career. I wrote this when I was reflecting on my career, “The toughest part about being an athlete or any type of competitor is realizing that you’re not as good as you’ve built yourself up to be. But with this realization comes a beautiful opportunity for growth. If it’s addressed with humility, that realization can propel you forward in ways that you’ve never experienced before”.
4. What does the Epiphany Initiative Foundation mean to you?
The Epiphany Initiative Foundation is an opportunity to give back to the community that helped me develop into the person that I am today. It’s an opportunity to tap into the limitless potential that is present in underserved and under representative communities. To pay it forward and give a child the chance to discover life lessons and character-building paths through academics and athletics.
